A swimming sculpture made out of beeswax, anchor. 170 x 110 x 30 cm. 4 weeks in the water.
Which secret is reproduced as a true-crime story, which secret is kept quiet?
The sculpture is generated from the sand imprint of the artist's body and pays homage to Ana Mendieta's performances. The work thematizes sexual partner violence, which is externalized unseen in shown cases that disempower life stories. ANGELS MORTES poses the question of how artists can reflect on the experience of violence without their entire artistic work being perceived exclusively as a victim narrative. In addition, ANGELS MORTES shows the corpse in the estate's pond, makes visible what takes place behind the façade and provides speculative narratives on violence. The irritation caused by the lifelike figure at first glance gives way to a poetic approach. The decomposing sculpture in the water, which is simultaneously populated by creatures such as algae and snails, becomes a metaphor for healing and hope.
